Meditation reduces risk of heart disease and stroke

Fri, 01 Jul 2011

It appears that Western or modern medicine is beginning to see the amazing and huge health benefits of regular meditation practice. Recent studies have found that transcendental meditation, known as Symran, can reduce the risk of heart attacks by half, prevent relapsing into depression, reduce risk of strokes, and manage chronic pain as well as anxiety and panic attacks .

As the National Health Service undergoes profound change in the coming months and years, meditation may is an essential component for patient care. Meditation, such as Mindfulness or Transcendental meditation empowers and enables the persons own inner capacity towards self-efficacy. In other words, meditation enables individuals to heal themselves.

Just as the body has its own healing mechanism, so does our mind. Just consider what happens when we cut our hand. After the initial blood flow, the body builds its own "plug" to prevent blood loss, grow new skin cells and over a short period of time, replace and repair the damaged area. The same is true for our minds. When our minds are damaged through chronic stress, experience depression, anxiety panic attack and other such distressing mental states, through the practice of regular meditation, we are able to provide our mind the opportunity to utilise its own inner wisdom to heal itself, just as our physical body does.

"Meditation is such a powerful resource that we have for our health, it always amazes me after one of our courses at the impact meditation has on participants health and well being" reported Dav Panesar, researcher and teacher of meditation practices .
