Try this simple experiment. Allow yourself time, perhaps a few minutes, take a few deep breaths, relax, and simply draw your attention toward your chest area. Become aware of what is "going" on there when you do this. What do you feel there? Can you feel it? A discreet yet intimate vibration?.... Simply relax and allow this vibration to arise, allowing yourself the time to cultivate inner silence and peace to feel it profoundly.
This sacred intimate vibration emanates from your Hirdiya also known as the Spiritual heart, sacred centre amongst other names. This delicate and subtle vibration radiates from the chest area and is the most direct experience and calling of infinity, the gateless gate into the most profound and sacred Truth. The essence of our Hirdiya or Spiritual Heart lies in this sacred tremor.
Our Hirdiya is our essential and ultimate nature, our very sense of being and the seat of Consciousness, transcendental self, the Pure "I", the ground of Being, the "Gur" awareness devoid of content. Almost all ancient wisdom traditions have some reference to the Spiritual Heart, in Eastern Consciousness traditions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, and Sikhism as well as Desert Christian traditions particularly Hesychasm all use various mindfulness methods incorporating the Hirdiya.
Almost all traditions restricted this "secret knowledge" and only passed it from teacher to student orally.
Intentionally directing awareness towards this inner most and most secret sanctuary of heart, the "gufa" or secret cave, cultivating a state of internal silence gradually and progressively allows our self to go through several developmental stages leading to the recognition and experience of Ultimate Reality and the state of Theosis, Divine Union.
The gradual development dissolves the notion of identification and removes the sense of separateness, while the sense of self remains as a non-limited, non-located "I am" without identification with form, yet a pure subject of knowledge, knowingness of selfhood. For example, " I am a man or woman" is deconstructed into "I am and the awareness of the physical body, be it man or woman".
Our Spiritual Heart is the gate and source of Timeless Consciousness, the background of existence, the entirety, the Unity and the Whole is totally and completely us. The single Heart shared by us all is central in our approach in the Symran Retreat Programme. Through guided meditation, cultivation of peace and stillness of mind, we help awaken to the sacred tremor in our Hearts. In this way we evolve our identity with the Whole and interconnectedness of infinite life.
